Yellow cornmeal is made from yellow dent corn that has been cleaned, degerminated and roller milled. Cornmeal, while finer and paler than corn grits, is still granular in nature. Cornmeal is used as an ingredient in
extruded snack foods, corn muffins, breakfast cereal, cornmeal mush, polenta, breaders and batter mixes. Cornmeal can often be found on the outside of English muffins, pizza crusts and hearth breads. Cornmeal is also used as a pharmaceutical carrier, as a raw material for industrial fermentation and as a natural abrasive cleaner in soaps and facial scrubs.
